Being 98 Km long and at it’s widest point 30 Km wide, Fuerteventura is the second largest of the Canary Islands, the least populated, the least developed and the closest to Africa with only 100 Km of ocean separating it from the Moroccan coast. Because of its proximity to Africa, Fuerteventura enjoys as much as 3,000 hours of sunshine every year and has a climate that is similar to Florida and Mexico and due to the African winds bringing the Sahara sands across the water, it has some of the most impressive beaches in the whole of Europe. From the golden shifting sand dunes of Correlejo in the north, to the flat, seemingly endless beaches in Jandia in the south, Fuerteventura is ideal for property investors and home buyers who appreciate a laid back lifestyle, unspoilt beaches, shimmering turquoise seas and temperatures that rarely drop below 21C degrees.

Water sports are an extremely popular pastime in Fuerteventura and the island hosts the P.W.A world windsurfing speed and slalom event every year. Next to wind surfing the other most popular activity is big game fishing as the seas surrounding Fuerteventura are teaming with Blue and White Marlin, Tuna of all varieties, Skipjack and Wahoo. If you are not a big fan of water sports, you will find sheltered coves that are safe for swimming, beautiful whitewashed villages and stunning mountain ranges.

Property in the Canary Islands has always been a popular investment with UK purchasers, for the following reasons. The archipelago is considered to be Europe’s Caribbean as it is only a mere four hour flight to get here. Fuerteventura enjoys an exceptional climate with almost 365 days of sunshine per year which means that the year long season offers outstanding opportunities for maximising returns on buy-to-let investment properties and with the Fuerteventura property market being less developed than the markets of the other Canary Islands, it means that prices are generally lower and better bargains can be found.

Although demand for property on Fuerteventura has increased substantially in recent years prices still remain among the best in Spain and new developments are still showing excellent capital appreciation. Also as Fuerteventura has arrived relatively late on the Canary Island tourism band wagon, the local government has had time to put in place several building constrictions and because the average property is not allowed to be more than two storeys high and a lot of Fuerteventura is protected from construction of any sort, you can be sure that the great views your dream property has will remain.
